The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was on exercise in the Sandown Bay area & was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend the Dive boat 'Trojan' of Dunnose point, where a  38 year old diver from Southampton had fallen over on board and dislocated his shoulder.

The injured diver was transferred to the Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat & was taken to the Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat Station, where paramedics were waiting to give him much needed pain relief  and had to be cut him out from a new dry suit before being transferred to St Mary's Hospital (Newport) for further treatment.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was called out 4 times on Saturday the 4th of June 2005 for the following reasons:-

The first call out was to an over turned rowing boat which was participating in the Shanklin Rowing Regatta, with strong winds to contend with the rower was struggling against the wind, his rowing boat ended up capsizing, the rower was too weak to carry on with the race or even right the rowing boat and was taken onboard  Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat with the rowing boat across the aft & fore.     

The rower was returned back to shore with rowing boat and was taken to be checked over by the race present  paramedics.

The second call out was a small vessel that was giving safety cover to the Shanklin Rowing regatta, the vessel had run out of fuel and was slowly drifting to the east.

The vessel was returned back to Shanklin bay and the crew changed vessel to carry on the safety cover for the regatta.

The third call out was a report from Police, stating that a woman was reported threatening to harm herself on the cliffs some where in Sandown Bay

After a description of her was passed on to the Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat, a costal search was made, she was spotted and the police were directed to her position where she was taken to hospital.

The forth call out was a distress call made by the 42 Ft yacht 'Misty' with 3 people on board, between Sandown Pier and Culver Cliff.

The vessel had lost all battery power and was slipping on its anchor with a rope stuck round its propeller jamming and trapping the ruder.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat stood by and relayed communications with the Solent Coastguard & the Bembridge Lifeboat where it was towed to Gosport.

 

 

 

Friday

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend a capsized catamaran, South of Wheelers Bay, which had been spotted by a member of the public and called in the concern to the Coastguard.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene to find that the 50ft catamaran 'Ocean Alcamist' had not capsized, but had in fact taken it's sails down to anchor in the bay and was at rest.

The Inshore lifeboat crew made sure that the French crew where ok and headed back to the Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat Station.

 

 

 

Monday

27/6/05

 

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend the Old pier site, where a floating oil drum had been spotted via another vessel and called in the concern to the Coastguard.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene to find that it was a floating gas cylinder, the gas cylinder was removed from the scene and towed back to Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat Station.

To be disposed of correctly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday

03/08/05

 

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend two inflatable boats with possible children involved floating out to sea.

The Coastguard rescue helicopter (India Juliet) & Bembridge Coastguard Team were all called for this search in Sandown Bay.

India Juliet spotted the inflatable boats and the Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was directed in.

After retrieving the inflatable boats the Coastguard rescue helicopter and Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat searched for the missing children.

The owners later made them selves known and that everyone was accounted for.

All units were returned to their stations.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

We would like to send a message out to the general public, from all the units that where involved, that when an inflatable is taken away by the wind, to notify lifeguards or Coastguard and we can still assist knowing that people's lives are not involved.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend  2 people, possibly cut off by tide near Dunose Point, off Shanklin cliffs, after a member of public had spotted them and called in the concern to the Coastguard.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene to find on inspection, they were fishing there and wanted to stay.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat crew advised about cliff falls of late, but the people were still happy to stay and after a small patrol of the area the lifeboat headed back to station.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend  a 16ft capsized catamaran, called 'Driftin', the vessel was drifting towards culver cliff, 1 mile out from hurn groin and there was one person in the water trying to right the vessel on his own.

A member of public had spotted the person having problems with the vessel and called in the concern to the Coastguard.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene and assisted in righting the vessel.

After making sure that the person was ok the Inshore Lifeboat returned to the station.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend an inflatable boat floating out to sea with a child involved and was ¼ mile of Yaverland.

The Coastguard rescue helicopter (India Juliet) was called upon to aid in the search in Sandown Bay.

 

After retrieving the inflatable boat, Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat and the Coastguard rescue helicopter   searched for the missing child for 2.30 hours - but nothing was found.

No reports of a missing child was given from the police and all units were returned to their stations.

 

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

We would like to send a message out to the general public, from all the units that where involved, PLEASE when an inflatable is taken away by the wind, that you notify lifeguards or Coastguard and we can still assist.

- Knowing that people's lives are not involved.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend a 18 Ft catamaran, called 'Hobby Cat', which had a broken mast and was just south of Sandown Pier.

The Vessel was spotted by another passing Vessel and called in the concern to the Coastguard.

The vessel was towed ashore to Yaverland.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend an inflatable boat, which was floating out to sea and had 3 people onboard.

The inflatable boat made it safely back to shore and Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat did not have to launch.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to assist in the search for a windsurfer who had got into difficulties a quarter of a mile off Yaverland beach.

A Ryde man who saw the windsurfer fall into the sea but did not see the windsurfer reappear and he raised the alarm.

Bembridge Coastguard's mobile unit, assisted by Coastguard rescue helicopter India Juliet and the Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat, went to the windsurfers assistance.

The windsurfer was found trying to swim back to shore, but with bad weather, was not making much ground with the a strong tide to contend with and was taken back to Yaverland beach where where paramedics were waiting.

The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to assist the fishing vessel 'Lady Hamilton' with 2 people on board, the vessel was around 3 miles South East of Sandown Bay with engine difficulties and was in need of assistance.


The vessel was then escorted back to Langstone Harbour (main land) to her mooring.
