The Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard, to attend a 15ft Dory, with  Engine Failure, one person onboard and was positioned 1 mile from Culver cliff.

The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene, 2.5 miles from culver toward the Nab Tower, to find the engine of the vessel would not start and radioed the information into Solent Coastguard.

As the vessel came from fleet land, in Fareham, SCG did not want SSILB to leave its operational area, as it was a busy day and needed SSILB to cover our area just in case we needed to be tasked.

SCG suggested that SSILB towed the vessel to Bembridge Harbour, where the owner could get repairs carried out and make further arrangements from there.

This was not an option for the owner, with luck a friend of his, from the same harbour was out fishing in another vessel and assisted with a tow back to Fareham.

SSILB escorted the vessels to Bembridge and radioed SC with further details of both vessels.

Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat returned Station.
