Saturday 16/09/10 11:27 N Force 5 |
Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat was paged by the Solent Coastguard to a report of a upturned catamaran half a mile East of Sandown pier.
On arrival SSILB attempted to re right it but
with the mast and its sail that which had dropped off the boat and was
suspended in the water underneath it on is rigging, SSILB crew
eventually got it upright, then had to get the mast on to the boat with
it sail and towed it into shore at Sandown where the Bembridge
Coastguard team, where SSILB shore crew were waiting and assisted
recovering it up the beach near our station.
Also whilst out there we were alerted to another sailing vessel in difficulty, SSILB then went to their aid and it was found that they were slowly sinking with the wind and tide not helping them.
We transferred one of the crew who was
shivering to our boat and carried out checks to make sure they were
fine. SSILB attached a tow line, towed them out of the wind and made our
way back to Yaverland Sailing Club, where again Bembridge Coastguard
team also assisted in retrieval of this boat and checked the crew.
